At New Perspectives at White Deer Run, we help individuals struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health issues build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
The Withdrawal Process
If a person abuses a drug for a long period of time, his or her body will adapt to the presence of that substance. If he or she then attempts to stop using that substance, his or her body must readjust itself to functioning without the substance present. This process of readjustment, which is known as withdrawal, can bring a number of extremely unpleasant symptoms.
When a person attempts to overcome a substance use disorder, he or she must first go through withdrawal from the drug or drugs he or she has been using. At best, the withdrawal process can be uncomfortable; at worst, it can be dangerous. Furthermore, attempting to withdraw without help can increase a person’s chance of relapse, as one can generally relieve the symptoms of withdrawal by ingesting the drug that he or she has been abusing.
Medically-Monitored Detox
At New Perspectives at White Deer Run in Lebanon, we understand how difficult and uncomfortable the withdrawal process can be, and so we provide a specialized medically-monitored detox program to help individuals take the first steps on their journeys towards sobriety. We provide detox for many different substances, including:
- Alcohol
- Opioids, including prescription painkillers and illicit drugs like heroin
- Benzodiazepines and other sedatives and hypnotics
Individuals in our detox program meet with the medical team daily to have their vital signs and withdrawal symptoms monitored, and to receive medications. This daily monitoring allows us to ensure a safe withdrawal process and to administer medications to help alleviate some of the symptoms of withdrawal. Our detox program, which typically lasts about five days, is open to men and women ages 18 and older. Individuals in the detox program at New Perspectives at White Deer Run are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, small group counseling, psychoeducation groups, and therapeutic recreation as they are able.
It may be intimidating to think about entering into a detox program, but at New Perspectives at White Deer Run in Lebanon, we have extensive experience in helping people through withdrawal. Choosing to begin your journey to sobriety with us may be the best choice you ever make.
