At White Deer Run at Allenwood, we help individuals struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health issues build a strong foundation for long-term recovery.
Why Detox?
When a person has been abusing alcohol or certain other drugs for a long of time, his or her body changes how it functions in order to accommodate the presence of these substances. If a person then attempts to stop using the substance, his or her body must readjust to functioning without the substance present. This readjustment process is known as withdrawal and can be very unpleasant and sometimes dangerous. Furthermore, because withdrawal symptoms often recede if a person uses his or her drug of choice, people are especially vulnerable to relapse during the withdrawal period.
The detoxification (withdrawal management) program at White Deer Run of Allenwood is designed to be a safe place to withdraw from substances. Our detox treatment program consists of both a medical component and a clinical component, known as D.O.V.E., or Detoxification, Observation, Verification, and Evaluation. Detox at our addiction treatment center is a medically monitored program that is intended to help the men and women of Allenwood when they are at their most vulnerable. We provide detox services for individuals who are addicted to a number of substances, including:
- Opiates
- Alcohol
- Benzodiazepines
- Cocaine
- Cannabis and synthetic cannabinoids
About Our Detox Program
Our detox program is available to men and women aged 18 and older. Generally individuals in the detox program at our addiction rehab center spend about three days in detox and seven days tapering down while in our residential rehabilitation program. Medical monitoring includes daily visits with the medical team to monitor each individual’s withdrawal symptoms and administer medications as necessary to make the withdrawal process as comfortable as possible.
Often people who are struggling with substance use disorders also meet criteria for other mental illnesses, and the D.O.V.E. program welcomes people with co-occurring mental health disorders. The D.O.V.E. component of detox at our rehab center in Allenwood includes meetings with the clinical staff as needed for assessments and to address specific needs. In addition, it includes 12-step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, and educational groups for individuals to attend as they are able. The detox program is provided by our staff of therapists, psychiatrists, physicians, physician’s assistants, and nurses.
While a decision to enter a detox program can be daunting, the detox program at our addiction rehab center is specially designed to be as safe and comfortable as possible. When at White Deer Run of Allenwood, you are in the care of compassionate staff members who strive to give you the best possible chance to begin living a life free from the influence of substance abuse and addiction.
