Relapse Prevention Group

White Deer Run/Cove Forge BHS recognizes the high rate of relapse within the chemically dependent population. We believe that treatment must include a treatment plan that addresses the issue of relapse prevention. As a part of this process, we require each client to participate in relapse prevention planning.

The first step in relapse prevention emphasizes the identification of personal stressors or triggers that could lead to relapse. Next, the client participates in exercises to help them plan to eliminate or minimize identified triggers. Typically, this discharge planning hinges on an evaluation of the client’s living environment and may lead to relocation or some other drastic change in their post-discharge living environment.

African-American Program

As part of our comprehensive treatment philosophies, White Deer Run believes that the African-American patient has special needs related to inherent cultural and racial issues. By addressing these issues, patients develop a greater understanding of their own addictions and learn effective coping skills, enabling them to work toward a complete recovery.

This supplemental group provides weekly opportunity for additional treatment lead by African-American staff. African-American patients from any of the Allenwood rehab programs may participate at their own choosing.

Rainbow Group (Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual)

The Rainbow Group provides supplemental group therapy and education for gay, lesbian, and bi-sexual patients in treatment at any of the Allenwood rehabilitation programs. The group focuses on the needs of gay, lesbian and bi-sexual patients in recovery.

Methadone to Abstinence Program

When a patient requires more intensive detoxification, White Deer Run provides a unique service currently unavailable at any other facility - the Methadone to Abstinence Service. Specially trained medical personnel utilize this short-term program, allowing the patient to experience a more potent but comfortable detox. This also enables the patient to enter the standard treatment programs more quickly. This five to fourteen day program helps reduce premature discharge rates. No patient is ever discharged on methadone.

DUI Program

The mission of the DUI counseling program is to access, educate and counsel those who have been arrested for a DUI offense, and to prevent those individuals from experiencing a reoccurrence of a DUI arrest. The goals for the program include:

  • Examination of the hazardous results which occur when combining drinking and driving.
  • To help develop plans for handling situations when drinking and driving may be involved.
  • To learn adequate refusal skills that will preclude the reoccurrence of arrest.
  • To provide clients with an overview of the progression symptoms and effects of alcoholism/chemical dependency.

  • Women’s Group

The women's group provides the opportunities for safe, open discussion regarding addictive behaviors, emotional dependencies and traumas. Through this supportive network, women learn to establish positive attitudes and relationships, furthering their recovery.

    Family Program

Since chemical dependency can affect the entire family, White Deer Run has developed a two-day program that brings families together in a workshop format. Through education and self-awareness training, family members learn how to better communicate, as well as how to set positive goals. Our program staff of professional, recovering family members works with patients by sharing their experience, knowledge and hope.

    Criminal Justice Program

The Criminal Justice offender brings a different set of characteristics to the treatment process. The offender often carries with them a set of antisocial personality traits and criminal behaviors that have made it difficult if not impossible for them to live a normal and responsible way of life. These traits make recovery from chemical dependency especially difficult.

The criminal justice program at WDR uses a form of cognitive behavioral therapy to help the addictive offender make lasting behavioral changes that include abstinence from drugs and alcohol and eliminate criminal activity.

    Residential Dual Diagnosis Program (MISA)

Dual Diagnosis patients suffer from two destructive illnesses: psychiatric disorder and addictive disease. We have developed a program to treat both illnesses simultaneously. The goals for the patient are to:

  • Accept and recognize the illness.
  • Develop and improve coping skills.
  • Eliminate dysfunctional behavior.
  • Return and live safely in a community setting.
  • Psychiatrists are on staff.

In addition to attending regular AA/NA meetings, clients participate in individual, group and family therapy and are oriented to twelve-step recovery. Psychotropic medication is administered based on the individual psychiatric evaluation with psychiatric illness and chemical dependency treatment.

  • Secure Sex Offender Program

Cove PREP (Psychosexual Rehabilitation and Education Program) is a secure residential program serving 12 to 20 year old males who have committed sexual offenses. During his stay, the resident will have a single room, attend school on site and participate in intensive group and individual therapy.

Cove PREP, licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, provides residential sex offender treatment. Three discreet units provide services tailored to meet the needs of sexually abusive youth with mild mental retardation, co-existing mental illness or delinquent behavior.
